Susan Birtwistle

Sue Birtwistle was born in Lancashire and attended Manchester Regional College of Art and Manchester University, gaining a Joint Honours degree in English and History of Art.

For many years, Sue taught English and Art at schools in Lancashire, Somerset and Gloucestershire. She has lived in Gloucestershire since 1979 and enjoys painting the glorious Cotswold landscape and villages. The buildings of Cotswold stone and the ever-changing light on the hills and valleys provide an endless source of inspiration.

Her work is exhibited in Gloucestershire and the North of England. Sue works mainly in watercolour and sometimes in oils. Her paintings may be found in private collections as far apart as Japan, the Falkland Islands, Australia, the USA, the Caribbean and China.

Picturesque '05 is co-owned by Sue Birtwistle and Sue Tiedeman. The gallery in Bourton-on-the-Water is in the heart of the Cotswold countryside.

Sue Tiedeman

Sue Tiedeman was born in Devon and spent her childhood in Shropshire and Staffordshire. She trained as a psychiatric nurse and moved to Cheltenham with her family in 1987.

She has always loved animals, and spent many years running a smallholding with various rare breeds of farm animals. She bred goats and sheep, and her particular favourites were pygmy goats which she bred, showed and judged at agricultural shows around the country. In 1993 she began breeding and showing British Shorthair cats, and has continued to do so with considerable success.

Sue started painting in 1993, initially with watercolours, but soon found that the texture and vibrant colours of pastels suited her style. She also enjoys working in pencil. Of course, she paints her cats whenever they allow her to do so, but she also loves to paint animals of any breed and is happy to accept commissions.

In 1996, Sue began to exhibit at the Cheltenham Open Air Art Exhibition, and she was a Committee Member for five years and has exhibited at the Society of Feline Artists' 2003 Exhibition at the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery, Waterloo, London.
